On Sunday 14th April, the annual Olivier Awards took place at the Royal Albert Hall, hosted by Hannah Waddingham.

There was a star-studded list of both guests and nominees, including David Tennant, Andrew Scott, Cara Delevigne and Michelle Visage, to name a few. Many stars were captured on the now-iconic green carpet, before moving into the glitz and glamour of the hall itself.

There were incredible performances from The Little Big Things, Next To Normal, Operation Mincemeat, A Strange Loop, Guys and Dolls, Sunset Boulevard and Hadestown. The performers were amazing and supported by a wonderful live orchestra.

Sunset Boulevard took away a big win, scooping up a grand total of 7 awards, including Best Actor and Actress in a Musical for Tom Francis and Nicole Scherzinger respectively.

Amongst the many awards, Best Actor went to Mark Gatiss for The Motive and the Cue, and Best Actress went to Sarah Snook for The Picture of Dorian Gray. The Mastercard Best New Musical Award went to Operation Mincemeat.

Other award winning shows included Dear England, The Little Big Things and Stranger Things: The First Shadow.

As usual, there was a moving tribute to numerous people involved in the theatre industry who had sadly passed away since the previous Olivier Awards.

The show closed with a spectacular finale celebrating 60 years of the National Theatre and celebrating its new director Indhu Rubasingham.
