TWO labour politicians met with supermarket bosses to discuss local jobs and supplier relationships.

MP Steve Reed OBE, the shadow secretary of state for environment, food and rural affairs, joined Andrew Lewin, Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Welwyn Hatfield to meet with senior managers from Tesco.

They visited its food development kitchens and discussed local jobs, supermarket supplier relationships with farmers and healthier food options for customers on store shelves.

Mr Reed OBE said: “Labour is the party of business and will back British suppliers and growers.

“It was fantastic to visit Welwyn Hatfield and develop our dialogue with Tesco about the best way to back British jobs, British retailers and British farmers.”

The company has a flagship headquarters on Shire Park in Welwyn Garden City, which employs around 6,000 people locally.

Mr Lewin added: "It is a priority for me to build close relationships with businesses across Welwyn Hatfield, from Tesco through to ambitious new entrepreneurs.

“It was inspiring to meet a senior director who works for Tesco at Shire Park and started their career on the graduate scheme 20 years ago.

"I want young people growing up in our community to have access to similar opportunities and be able to build a career in the place they grew up."
